Janet Cunniffe-Chieffo

Renowned for creating luminous oil paintings on copper, Janet Cunniffe-Chieffo has fine-tuned her old master technique painting jewel like quality works of art that stand the test of time. A technique she learned while earning her Masters of Fine Art at the New York Academy of Art, painting on copper she states makes each painting glow with light. " Light is what inspires me to paint, and the copper allows me to achieve a unique luminosity that makes my still life come alive", states Janet Cunniffe-Chieffo.

Her award winning paintings have been published online in Copper in the Arts online magazine, featured in the Artists Magazine, and written up in numerous New Jersey newspaper articles. Most recently in April 2016, her oil painting on copper was published on the cover Connection Magazine, the Bernards-Ridge edition, along with a featured biography of the artist. Solo exhibitions include shows at Swain Galleries in Plainfield, and in February 2016 she had her first solo show with Studio 7 Fine Art Gallery in Bernardsville. Also an accomplished portrait painter, Cunniffe-Chieffo was commissioned to paint the formal portrait of C. Scott Vanderhoef, the former County Executive of Rockland County, NY. Her works are collected by private collectors across the country and abroad.

Having studied with two great teachers of oil painting, Nelson Shanks, master of portrait painting and John Phillip Osborne, master of landscape painting, Janet Cunniffe-Chieffo feels indebted to these two great artists and continues the tradition through her teaching.
